Updated: Jun 29

By Maria Panagiotidis

Perfumes first originated about 4000 BC, and they have come a long way since then. The market is saturated with different brands of perfumes, and it is hard to know where to start and what scent to select. Perfume is the finishing touch for any outfit, lifting your mood and spirits and also making certain that you smell delicious all day.

Perfume can transport you to faraway places, promising you a time when you will have the money and ability to visit the places where these perfumes are made or the lands that these perfumes remind you of. Perfume can make you feel good, and there is nothing more complimentary than someone asking you what perfume you are wearing because it just smells so good that it captures their attention and sense of smell.

To help you on your perfume journey, we have compiled a list of five must-have perfumes you can add to your ever-growing collection of scents.

  1. Miss Dior Eau de Parfum: You must have seen some of the commercials or print adverts with Natalie Portman featuring Miss Dior. They are super famous, just like the perfume. This perfume is for every woman. The scent was first created in 1947, so it must be fabulous to have survived so long in the world and marketplace of scents. The perfume itself is a mix of florals, including jasmine, Rose de Grasse, and lily of the valley.

  2. Yvresse by Yves Saint Laurent: This is a luxury perfume that is a sensual mix of various ingredients. It used to be called Champagne but was re-launched as Yvresse. The perfume was created in 1993. It is a very strong perfume and is most particularly suited to night outs on the town. With a woodsy and fruity scent, you are sure to shine with this perfume. There are top notes of nectarine and litchi, middle notes of violet and rose, and base notes of wonderful patchouli.

  3. 5th Avenue by Elizabeth Arden: This perfume is perfect for the working girl and is great for the day. This scent reminds one of New York and the street with the amazing shops in the city. A floral fragrance that takes you to the busy city street in New York and inspires you to take that trip to the wonderful city. It contains rose, jasmine, lilac, lily of the valley, mandarin, and sandalwood. It is more lightweight than the other perfumes on this list.

  4. Chanel No.5 Eau de Parfum: This is the most classic perfume, and you cannot go wrong in any way if you add a bit of Chanel No.5 to your day or night. It is a heady mix of rose, vanilla, ylang-ylang, iris, patchouli, vetiver, and jasmine, taking you from day to night. Created in 1921, this perfume has a rich history.

  5. Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream: Have you seen the commercial with Kaia Gerber frolicking in nature? This bottle captures the scent of youth and nature. It is a perfume for the modern girl and exudes fun. It is a light perfume, great for the day. The fragrance contains top notes of blackberries, middle notes of jasmine, blue wisteria, and base notes of white woods.
