How AI has completely transformed the CV writing process

By George Manadis

In today’s world, CVs must not only contain words and text. What are recruiters looking for? How can someone optimize their resume using new technologies?

The way a CV looks is now more important than ever

According to studies conducted recently, the presentation of a CV plays an important role in the recruitment process. According to such studies, approximately 70% of all HR managers consider the appearance of a CV as one of the most determining factors while reviewing a resume.

In a job market that is nowadays more competitive than ever, this trend demonstrates clearly the importance of an attractive and structured CV if you want to capture the eye of a recruiter.

The way you present yourself through a CV can considerably influence the decision of a recruiter. On average, recruiters spend somewhere between 30 seconds and 3 minutes analyzing your resume before deciding if a candidate is adequate for a position.

Only 22% of recruiters claim that they are satisfied with the resumes they receive, showing an inequality between the needs of companies and employees and the quality of CVs and submitted applications.

The same studies also reveal that 70% of recruiters believe that CVs that contain only text will become obsolete in 5 years from now. This highlights now, more than ever, the need for candidates to adopt more visual and interactive forms of CVs. Despite that, more than 60 percent of candidates say that their CVs are entirely based on text, an amount that reflects the delay in adopting the new standards for presenting CVs.

Digital CVs are also on the rise, although only 15% of candidates include such attributes with their application, but around half of recruiters consider these as very important. These tools allow us to illustrate the necessity of such tools in the future. In summary, the presentation of a CV is not a simple detail: it is a key strategy towards achieving better employment in the future.

How does AI transform the design of CVs?

Artificial intelligence has deeply transformed the way of creating and receiving CVs. In 2023, according to studies, a third of candidates have used AI to write or improve their CVs. These technological tools allow people to gain time, ameliorate the precision of presented information, and propose CV designs adapted to the needs of recruiters.

The impact of AI is spectacular in all fields: 90% of all candidates who have used AI technologies were summoned to attend an interview, and approximately half of these received a call for the vacancies for which they applied.

This technological revolution responds to clear needs. The majority of recruiters prefer that the candidates indicate the use of AI in their CV for transparency reasons. Beginning from the simple creation of a CV, AI contributes to reducing the text quantity in CVs, a need that is shared among 50% of all recruiters.

AI also allows the insertion of graphic images, graphs, or digital portfolios thus making applications more dynamic and interactive. Candidates this way can create personalized and innovative CVs, an evolution that transforms applications into perfect marketing tools, allowing everyone to stand out in a market more and more demanding.

Artificial intelligence transforms the rules of the game

The automation of tasks, prediction of performance, or improvement of the candidate experience: AI is already deeply transforming the recruitment sector. AI redefines recruitment practices, changing traditional methods. In all areas, AI is here to stay and help improve process efficiency.

How does AI change the recruitment processes?

In a market more and more antagonistic and complex, recruiters must spot, attract, and recruit the best talent immediately. In order to address these challenges, more and more companies are turning towards AI in order to optimize their processes. Their goal is to gain time, efficiency, and objectivity.

From the preselection of candidates to the final evaluation and the interaction with applicants, AI provides unprecedented opportunities for efficiency and precision.

Automating repetitive tasks

One of the principal advantages of AI in the recruitment process is the simplification of repetitive tasks that take a lot of time. AI frees the recruiter from certain tasks so that they can concentrate on what matters the most: the person behind the resume.

According to research and studies, a lot of sector leaders and HR personnel declare that AI facilitates and accelerates the creation of employment offers. AI helps them automate certain tasks, giving them more time to spend on more valuable activities. For instance, in the preselection of CVs, the AI algorithms can separate thousands of applicants in a matter of seconds and according to predefined criteria. This allows them not only to be quicker but also to identify more promising applicants through analysis of keywords.

Additionally, AI optimizes the planning of interviews, automatically coordinating the availability and the calendars of recruiters and candidates, thus making the entire process faster and efficient.

Interview: AI helps evaluate candidates

AI does not limit itself only to the preselection of candidates or to scheduling interviews. AI also revolutionizes the methods of evaluation. Behavioral analysis tools allow evaluation of facial expressions, tone of voice, or even word choice during an interview, estimating the compatibility of candidates with a specific job vacancy.

This could look like science fiction, but these technologies bring to the table an additional objectivity and help detect signals that human recruiters might be missing. AI allows for a more complete and personalized evaluation, identifying notably personality characteristics and soft skills.

Now it is time to incorporate in this transformation ethical guidelines to ensure that the algorithm's transparency and protection of personal data takes place. This will save a lot of time for both recruiters and candidates, make the whole process smoother, and facilitate hiring of the correct people in the correct positions
