Five Hobby Ideas

By Eliana

While Summer is perfect for relaxation, Fall is the ideal season to discover new passions. Many find increased time indoors challenging because they are unsure of how to spend their free time. To inspire you, we have created a list of five hobbies to try this year.

1) Journaling

Journaling can take many forms. Although often seen as a writing exercise, it has now expanded into various creative avenues. For example, nature lovers might enjoy nature journaling, while art enthusiasts can create mixed media or art journals. The key is to use your journal to explore new techniques and express your inner world.

2) Cooking

Many people view cooking merely as a necessary task, but it can also be a creative hobby. As you learn new techniques, your ability to invent unique flavors grows, leading to enjoyable experiences to share with friends and family—one of the main benefits of cooking as a hobby.

3) Puzzles

Most people left puzzles in their childhood; however, in recent years, there has been an emergence of a vibrant community of adults that focuses on making puzzles. Puzzles can be a calm, solo activity that engages your brain in an enjoyable and slow-paced way. This is a great hobby for those who want to find something stimulating enough that keeps their mind busy, without actually tiring them further.

4) Knitting and Crocheting

Knitting and Crocheting can be a great creative hobby as it allows one to perform a repetitive movement while also making something that they can use or wear. The fact that knitting and crocheting are based on repetition means that you can shut off your brain and just continue with what is going to be a relaxing activity for your brain. What’s even better, you can use your new hobby and skills to make blankets, scarves, sweaters, and even gloves.

5) Painting

Painting tends to be another extremely relaxing hobby for those who pursue it. Inexpensive and easy to start, painting enables you to develop your technique through daily practice, while also allowing you to create images that fully express your inner world. It is for this reason that many people tend to prefer it as an activity, as it allows them to create something tangible that can act as a memory of their experiences.
